Hi Richard,
Thank you for your posting. Yes, I too believe that the name Mudget, Mudgett and Muggett in the early Surry records was later pronounced Magget(t)and Maget. Bolling Batte confused two John Masons of the mid to late 1600's and shows the one who died prior to 1676 Surry as having married Mary Muggett. This John Mason married a lady named Elizabeth and I believe her maiden name was Gray. Following John Mason's death, Elizabeth married secondly Thomas Clay and thirdly John Shugars. Her daughter Ann Mason married Phillip Shelly.
I am attempting to locate further for this Mary Mudget/Muggett who married another John Mason of whom I'm researching. If you should come across anything that might aide in this I surely would appreciate hearing from you. It may be that following the death of this John Mason that Mary married secondly a John Beere or Beare. At this stage though I can't say with certainty that the Mary who married Beere was Mary Muggett Mason. All that I have is the marriage record notes Mary Mason, relect of John Mason.
