I think I have found "Grandpa Mulford" in an old book about the ancestors of Betsy Mulford Sutliff, printed around 1897.

He has to be the son of my 4g-grandfather, Dr. Ezra Ames Mulford, born at Watervliet Center (now Verdoy) NY on June 21, 1804; died at Big Foot WI on Nov. 1, 1861. (Big Foot is right on the state line, just a few miles north of Harvard IL.) He married Zilpah Packard in 1826 and they had six children:

1. Huldah Mulford, born Stratford NY Sept.26, 1827, married George Mansfield on Dec. 6, 1848.

2. Emily Jane Mulford, born Ames NY on March 30, 1830, died May 13, 1880. Married Jan 8 1849 at Big Foot to John McCray Cramer.

3. Delos White Mulford, born July 22, 1832, died Sept. 17, 1886. Married at Big Foot in Feb. 1855 to Emmeline Finch. Their children all born at Big Foot.

4. Ezra Ames Mulford, b. Jan. 25, 1835 in Canajoharie, NY; married at Sharon WI, March 13, 1857 to Julia Brown who died at Sharon WI on Nov. 6, 1896. Child, adopted: Anna, born at Big Foot WI, March 15, 1855, m. Oct. 20, 1874 to George Pierce.

5. Sally Mulford, b. June 9, 1838; died Sept. 17, 1895; m. Nov. 23, 1859, Edwin Wilkinson, son of Burrows and Hersie (Badger) Wilkinson.

This is more information that you asked for, but I thought it might help in trying to track down more information??

I have a bad photocopy of a photo of the elder Ezra Ames Mulford that appeared in the book. It is oval-shaped and Dr. Mulford has a high collar and a wide straight mouth. I am interested to learn that you found this photo on e-bay. Were there others available?

An interesting note about Dr. Ezra Ames Mulford from the book:
"He studied medicine with his brother-in-law, Dr. James Wade, and attended medical lectures in Albany, NY. He practiced his profession in Montgomery, Schoharie and Otsego counties, NY, and in 1845 went to Big Foot Prairie, Wis., where, in spite of long-continued ill health, he acquired a large practice. He was one of the members of the convention which framed the original constitution for the state of Wisconsin. His letters to his eastern relatives, many of which have been preserved, give interesting accounts of pioneer life in Wisconsin."
