Nancy: Little did make a ton of mistakes.Often, you will find corrections or additions to his work in various statewide genealogical society quarterlies, submitted by later researchers. In the copy of his book that I bought for our library, it contained a page or twoinserted at the front mentioning and correction a few of the more obvious errors. If you read the entry on Deborah out of Littell's book, and if you do the math, you will discover that it doesn't make sense.According to Littell, Deborah's father remarried and left with his new wife and son, leaving Deborah there, yet she would have only been about nine years old!
Deborah Mulford, christened March 26, 1769 New Providence Presb. Church, Union/Essex Co., N.J. mar. at New Providence on Oct. 19, 1783 to Daniel Wilcox, son of John and Nancy (Ross) Wilcox.I have their children as: Hannah, Ezekiel, Jothan or Jonathan, Jane, Mary and Ezra.
Deborah Mulford was the daughter of Ezekiel Mulford who married Mary Edwards.Ezekiel Mulford was born in Cape May, N.J. circa 1731, and married Mary, daughter of James Edwards on May 4, 1762 in Cape May.They had two children: (1) Jeremiah and (2) Deborah (yours).
This Ezekiel Mulford, the father of Deborah, was the son of William Mulford and Charity Furman. Here is where Villars Mulford, Hewlett and Chatfield start messing up the waters.
This William Mulford, born circa 1692 at East Hampton, Long Island, New York, married circa 1715, to Mrs. Charity (Furman) Matthews, a widow and daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Garlick) Furman.
This William was a brother to the Ezekiel Mulford, who married Biah Osborn.William and Ezekiel had another brother named Jeremiah, who also had a son named Ezekiel. So you have three brothers, each having a son named Ezekiel.
William, Ezekiel and Jeremiah were the sons of Thomas Mulford, who married Mary Conklin(g), daughter of Jeremiah and Mary (Gardiner) Conkling.Mary Gardiner was the grand- daughter of Lyon Gardiner.
Thomas Mulford, the father of these three brothers; had other children as well. This Thomas was the son of William Mulford, the immigrant.
The Deborah Mulford, who was a daughter of Ezekiel Mulford and Jemima Marsh, married Gabriel Thompson Nov. 9, 1795 at First Bapt. Ch. in Cape May.In 1820, they begain their move to Warren County, Ohio.Gabriel died in route at Trenton, N. J.Deborah, according to J. Villars Mulford, then married William Cummins, who also predeceased here. This Deborah died at Lebanon, Ohio on March 11, 1858 and is buried there.
