In your studies have you found anything that might suggest either she had the nickname Ell, or that maybe she had a sister/cousin with that name?

I have a civil war era (1863) diary of my ancestor, and he mentions in it that he wrote to her every couple of days. I searched everywhere I could think of, and you are the first person to really know anything about someone who is about his age with the last name Mulford. Can you help me? Ell is a bit of a family mystery.
