Autograph Book of Cornelia D. B. Mulford, New York
I hope this is the correct forum :)My mother gave me a lovely little autograph book from the 1880s, because I love genealogy and historical research.I have kept the book and enjoyed it enormously, but in the course of researching my own family history, I realized that if someone out there had my gg-grandmother's autograph book with family/friends names and addresses, that would be a true gem.OK, I would kill for a look ;)
So, if anyone from the Mulford family would like to borrow the book for research, or just to take a peek, here are the details:
Her name was Cornelia D. B. Mulford
Shawangunk
Ulster County, New York
and the book was dated by her on June 17th, 1880.I think there must have been some kind of special occasion, maybe a graduation, because the majority of the inscriptions are from the Summer of 1880.Her nickname was 'Nealie'.
Some names that might be helpful - her father or 'Pappa' is James F? Mulford and he signed the book on January 8th, 1885 in Galeville Mills. He seems to have signed 'auctioneer' under his name, which is a little odd,but maybe that will mean something to the family?
One funny page has 'Raymond D. Smith', New York and the information that he is six years old :)And there is a little story written in pencil in the corner of another page that talks about Cornelia and someone else going to make a call and having to make a visit because of the ice, and mama and papa scolding (no date).Raymond shows up several times, so he could also be a family member?
The book was actually purchased from a small antique store in Tucson, Arizona - I assume someone must have moved out West at some point, and the book was discarded.I know it is not the family bible but still interesting.
With affection (well, we are fond of Nealie now!)
