Clarence E. Mulford line

There has been a story going around our family that we are related to Clarence Edward Mulford, author of the Hopalong Cassidy books. I am able to trace my Mulford line back a bit, but cannot find enough information on C.E.'s line other than his parents' names. Has anyone been able to trace this line at all? I would like to find out once and for all how/if we are related. Thanks for your help!
