Clarence E. Mulford, creator of Hopalong Cassidy, was born 3 Feb 1883 in Streator, LaSalle Co IL, and died 10 May 1956 in Maine.
Appears in the 1920 census in Brooklyn NY, age 36, b IL, father listed as b NY (apparently incorrect) and mother b IL.
His mother, Grace, is in his household, age 56, widow, born IL, father b Germany, mother born New Jersey.
One biography of Clarence E. says his parents were Clarence Cohansey Mulford and Minnie Grace Kline.[WorldConnect Project shows a child by the name Clarence Cohansey Mulford born 1855, died 1856 in Cumberland Co NJ.]

He is quite likely the Clarence Mulford who died in 1910 in NY at age 51, reportedly b Cairo IL.Pine Grove Cem, Fryeburg, Maine, shows burials for Clarence C. Mulford (1858-1910) and Minnie G. Mulford (1861-1943).Clarence E. Mulford also buried there.
