Thomas F Murphy m Catherine Kieran, 25 Feb 1878
My 1999 message #1766 in this forum has a good amount of misinforation and perpetuates family legend that now appear to be false.Improvements in the census indices is helping solve some mysteries but generates some new ones.
The new and improved info (and hoepfully accurate:
THomas F Murphy, b abt 1853 (per 1880 census) in Ireland.Married Catherine Kieran 25 Feb 1878 in Adams Co, Illinois (per IL marriage index).Thought to be nine children of this marriage.Known is Harold Francis b 2 Jan 1890 in Quincy IL.Also Florence b abt 1898.Others include Frank and Olive, maybe Pearl.Harold thought to be 5th.Florence probably last or next to last.Thomas died in 1899.Worked as carriage maker, carriage painter and carriage shop foreman in Quincy (per census and Quincy directories).Catherine's parents both born in Ireland per census.Catherine died in 1945 in Los Angeles CA.I think she may be buried in Quincy (per war correspondence between my parents). At the time of death she was living with daughter Florence and son-in-law Luther Hedges. One son known of this marriage, LeRoy b abt 1928.
Harold Francis is my Grandfather. He was art director for various advertising agencies in Chicago and Detroit from the 20's until 1945.He is know to have lived in Chicago, South Bend and Detroit.I cannot find him in the 1930 census. He died in Detroit in 1960.He married Lelah Rae Massie abt 1916.They divorced abt 1925.He did not remarry. They had two children, Robert Thomas, b July 1917 and Elinor Marie, b 23 Nov 1921.Elinor was born in Chicago.
Any additional or confirming infor re the above would make be appreciated by some aging grandchildren.
