Avery Mustain volunteered in Capt. Thomas Dillard’s company in 1776, returning home around Christmas.He was drafted and went south with Capt Isaac Clement where he fought at the Battle of Camden.He volunteered with Capt. Gabriel Shelton.He was at the siege of Yorktown under Capt. William Dix and present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis.He was detached to guard prisoners under Capt. Charles Williams to Noland’s Ferry.Avery was born 26 Feb 1756, near where he died, and lived until 31 Aug 1833.The government waited until 50 years after the war (1832) to accept pension applications.Obviously many died before they could apply.There are more details of his Revolutionary War service in his application.
