Mustard DNA Project
I am John David Mustard from the William Mustard family, Ross and Cromarty.
I have started a DNA project to see if we are able to connect the various lines of Mustards scattered around England, Scotland, North America, and the world.
www.FamilytreeDNA.com will administer a 12-marker test for $99, and upgrade that to 25-markers for an additional $90, or you may take the 25=marker test initially for $169.This is a discount of $40-50 from the regular test fees.
If you are interested in taking the DNA test, please contact me at: [email protected], and state your reason for taking it.It would be good if we could get Two people from each family lineage to take the test, as 2-5% of the time, there may be a surprise on the paternal side. I will then enter your name into the project, and send you an application for the test kit. This test is only for the y-chromosome, passed from father to son.For our purposes, testing the maternal side would not work, as it would be nearly impossible to track because of the constantly changing surname. So we need males only.
You will be tested against all persons in the Family Tree DNA data base. The results will be available only to the tested person, and myself as administrator of the Mustard DNA Project. You will be given the names the names of any relatives identified. It will also be entered into the Mustard DAN Project site.It WILL NOT be given to outsiders.
There are many other tests available, including female, american indian, etc. and your test sample may be used to have these done for an additional fee. Some of these tests are fairly expensive, and would be un-necessary to conduct the paternal linkage of families. The Family Tree DNA site for additional tests available.
For example:The Comphrehensive Ancestral/Anthropological Test is an additional $619.If we were to get several families linked together, then only one person with the highest gene marker number, say 24/25 or 25/25 would be able to take this test for all of us.
Then we would know whether we we came from Celts, Vikings, Normans, etc.We will not know any particular individual, in most cases, but at the very least, can identify cousins, and probably fill in holes in our lineage.
See:www.familytreeDNA.com for general information. Note the prices quoted on this site do not apply to us, as the Mustard DNA project receives previously mentioned discount.
