Jacob MYERS Cem., Monaghan Twp/York/PA

Yesterday, 7/4/00, my parents and I "re-discovered" a Myers family cemetery in Monaghan Twp., York Co., PA.We noticed it in the ADC Map Book for York Co. on Map #6 (page 11)at coordinate A7.It is on Mount Airy Rd. near where the name changes to Roundtop Rd., and indeed from the cemetery you can see the "Ski Roundtop" resort mountain.The cemetery is not visible from the road, so we stopped at Baker's Kennels and inquired about a local cemetery.They sent us along an apple orchard, through a hedgerow, across a field to the edge of the woods.

The cemetery contains approximately 17 headstones, most of which are very nice stones in great condition.The plot is surrounded by a red iron fence, and is full of many decades of plant growth.It is obviously no longer cared for - probably the current owners of the farm are unrelated to the Myers'.

We took video and many still photos, and I have included all inscriptions that I found below.My interpretation is that the plot was part of Jacob and Mary Myers' farm, and that besides themselves, the "residents" are their children and grandchildren.The earliest burial is 1846, the latest is 1927.We did find the remains of a old flower pot, but no evidence of recent visitations.

The patriarch Jacob is of the right age to be a brother or first cousin to my ancestor Henry Myers, who was born circa 1807 and shows up in the 1850 census in neighboring Warrington Twp.

My search for Henry continues.Hopefully the information below will help others and possibly generate leads to my Henry.
