"PETER MCDOWELL NAIL, JR. was born in Panola County, Texas, on October 29, 1861; the second son of CLARA JANE ANDERSON NAIL and PETER MCDOWELL NAIL, SR. (note: Clara Jane Anderson WAS THE DAUGHTER OF Jonathan Anderson AND Mary Jane Davis Anderson).
PETER MCDOWELL NAIL, SR., who came to Panola County from Arkansas, died two weeks before P.M. JR. was born.WILLIAM NAIL was an older brother of P.M. JR.
P.M. NAIL, JR., known as "Mack", married GEORGIA ANN COBLE, daughter of PINELDA HARPER COBLE and GEORGE COBLE; and the couple were the Parents of five (5) daughters and one son. The son, P. M. Nail III, known as "Mackie" was killed in a tragic train accident, at age fourteen. The daughters, namely, STENA, EMMA, PINELDA, CLARA and WILLIE B. married Panola County residents; and, reared Families in the County.
GEORGIA ANN COBLE NAIL, who was born on April 13, 1862, died during a Measles Epidemic on March 7, 1900.The entire Family contracted Measles; and, GEORGIA, while attending to ill children, succumbed to pneumonia resultant from her own Measles illness.
Following the death of GEORGIA ANN, P.M. JR. married MARGARET LOUISA PITTS; and, they were the Parents of one daughter, PRISCILLA, who married a Panola County Native.
P.M. NAIL, JR. died on June 8, 1938; and he is interred at Liberty Chapel, near Carthage.he was followed in death, a number of years later, by LOUISA, and five of his six daughters. PINELDA NAIL EVANS, age 87, now survives.
STENA NAIL SPEARS, fourth daughter of P..M. NAIL, JR., a veteran School Teacher, taught in Panola County and harris County Schools for many years. She was a wonderful Christian woman, whose concern was for others, instead of self. She was very active, for many years, in the methodist Church. She was, also, active in Community Affiars, and the order of Eastern Star; being dedicated to serving others, until she succumbed to cancer, on January 30, 1973.The was an inspiration to many; and, she was th emostChrist-like person I have ever know.
It is in memory of STENA NAIL SPEARS that this brief History is being submitted.
