My gggrandfather was John Naill, if the age given on the 1850 Knox Co., Tn. census is correct it would make his birth year abt. 1786, place of birth given as North Carolina. John married Mary "Polly" Barkley who I believe is actually a "Barclay", Jan., 10, 1820, Knox County, Tn.; bondsman Barclay Vance Walker. The known children of John and Mary "Polly" Naill are as follows: James Bartley Naill (my ggrandfather), Samuel C. Naill, Felix B. Naill, Leroy B. Naill, Martha Naill, Mary Jane Naill, Nancy Naill, Ann Emilia Naill, Margeret E. Naill and there are probably a few more that I'm not aware of.James Bartley Naill m. B.E. Hackney, 1859, Knox Co., Tn.James Bartley Naill m. Mary A. Merriman, 1870, Knox Co., Tn.James Bartley Naill m. Sarah Taylor Poston, 1875, Knox Co., Tn.Samuel C. Naill m. Elizabeth A. Hodges, 1850, Knox Co., Tn.Margeret Elizaberth Naill m. Samuel Kennedy,1850, Knox Co.,Tn..Also, I believe a man by the name ofSamuel Naill who married Betsy Barclay, 1828, Knox Co., Tn. and died 1845 in Madison Co., Tn. to be a brother of John Naill. I also suspect that Mary "Polly" Barkley and Betsy Barclay to be close relatives if not sisters. There may also be a link between this Naill family and some of the Neill's that came out of North Carolina and settled in west Tennessee, specifically Wilson and Madison counties.
