plural neaves
Greetings to all plural Neaves from a singular Neave!
Our bunch can be traced back to Norfolk (East Anglia) - I've got to the mid 1700s so far. The Agricultural Revolution scattered us all over the place - my line headed for Hampshire. I emigrated to NZ in the 1960s and found heaps of (singular) Neaves here already, especially around Christchurch; the majoritydescended from the Scottish line - which I suspect is completely separate from ours.
Someone asked about the meaning of the name; it may well have an equivalent in Gaelic - but my reference gives "OE nefa, ME neve- ‘nephew’ " (Also a nickname for a prodigal or parasite - but that's another story!)
Good luck!
