Mary Johana Nell
Mary Johanna Nell (Jewish) is my great-grandmother. All I know is that my great-grandfather married her in March 1882 in Delaware. He met her when he took the children (from his first wife -deceased) to New York for shoes. She worked in the shoe shop. when she married my great- grandfather - Thomas Maloney in Delaware(Irish/catholic)her family disowned her.
I have found a birth certificate on familysearch.com for a Johanna Nell - child of John and Fredericke Nell from Prussia . I have found a John (1832) and Fredericke (1828) Nell on the 1870 census in New York City and he is listed as a shoemaker. There are two male children in the home - John - 1857 and Otto 1859. Johanna's birth certificate states birthday as 1-19- 1864. I have her born in 1864 from family verbal history. But Johanna is not listed in the home - she would have been about 6-7. The few references to her that I have been able to find she is often called Mary Jane or Jane.
Thomas and Jane lived inWilmington, De. My grandmother Agnes Maloney Williams is one of her daughters. Jane was deceased before my grandmothr married so her children never knew her.
does any of this ring a bell with anyone out there?? I have really hit a brick wall.
