Thank you for your comments.I truly appreciate your thoughts.I agree with you about John Newell (Landon's brother) being George W Nevels father for the same reasons you mentioned and his age group.I, too, believe George's name was NEWELL in the beginning, then for some reason it was changed to NEVELS.Namely because there are no NEVELS or any other variations of spelling on the 1810, 1820, 1830 Censuses, but there several NEWELL families. On October 12, 1833 it was listed as George Nevill when he purchased 100 acres in Wayne County per Kentucky Land Grants.1840 Census reflected George NEWELLS, 1850 Census shows George NEVELS, and 1860 Census it was George NEVIL.George and Abigail TUCKER didn't marry until 1834, so as you were saying, George was probably living with another relative after the 1820 Census (the last record found of John NEWELL) and we'll never know who that relative was because the earlier census didn't reflect names of household members until 1850.
I find it strange that the NEVELS and NEWELL households split off into separate branches, but realize that if someone grew up thinking their surname was Nevels or Newell, then that information would continue on throughout the years.Anyway, I'm still digging and trying to find other information on George W and his parentage...don't know that I'll turn anything up, but it's worth a shot.I'm also checking into that Charles NEEL/Charles NEWELL found on the 1810 Census and mentioned in the KYGenWeb website.Seems like he disappeared, too, by the 1820 Census.
