Joseph was born, 22 Oct 1882, son of Richard M. and Inez M. (Heath) Nevins.Richard was born, 18 May 1853, Crawford Co., PA.In 1909 he moved his family to homestead in Montana.Inez was the daughter of William L. and Philetta Heath.Children of Richard and Inez Nevins:William L. (Sidney, MT), Joseph Homer (Sidney superintendent of schools), Gilbert H. (farmer at Dare, ND), Frank R. (farmer at Three Buttes, MT), Iva M. (Sidney, MT).
Joseph H. attended schools in Williamsfield, OH, and in Andover High School, and then taught two years in his home district.In 1904 he entered Hiram College and graduated in 1908. He came to Sidney, Montana, from Andover.
On 24 Jul 1912, Merillan, WI, Joseph married Ella C. Dates, born 8 Mar 1883, daughter of Charles and Mary (Cure) Dates, both of whom came from New York to Wisconsin. Ella lost her mother in early life and took care of her five brothers and sisters.Child of Joseph and Ellen Nevins: Mildred Inez, (Mrs. Roger Williams, LaSalle, IL, born 12 Dec 1913).
