NEWBURY DNA PROJECT
Hello Newberry/Newbury Descendants:
A DNA project is being establish for the Newberry surname. If you are interested, please read on:
The first phase of the project will compare the DNA of known Newberry progenitors in New England through provable lineages. The founders are:
1. Thomas Newberry of co. Dorset, England, son of Richard Newberye, Gent. and Grace Matthews.Thomas was born 10 Nov. 1594 and emigrated to New England with his second wife and family in 1630 & 1634. Their sons were Joseph, Benjamin and John. He died in 1635, in Dorchester, MA.
2. Richard Newbury of unknown co. (possibly Dorset) England, parents unknown, emigrated to New England between 1634-1638, but before 1640.He married Sarah Robinson and died in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts in 1685.
3. Walter Newbury of unknown co. England, arrived circa 1670 with his wife Ann Collins. Resided in Rhode Island, d. 1697.His descendants were thought to have spread to the southern states.
Other families will also be studied in the future as they are identified and the project takes shape. I encourage anyone who is interested to contact me whether you can qualify to test or not.The main idea here is to bring together all the known families of Newberry and prove relationships, first with the founders of Massachusetts, and later with other lines who are having difficulty establishing their English or Irish roots.
If you are descended from father to son to one of the founding fathers, we would be interested in speaking with you about testing. This means that you must be male and your surname is Newberry and you are descended through all males in your family. If this sounds redundant, please understand, many people don't realize the special circumstances with which one must comply in order to help with this study.
