I know there is two different lines of Nicklaw's in the states. The surname NICKLAW originates from two different lines, one is JACQUES and the other BOUCIER(?). Both families used a "dit" name, changing the surname from JACQUES or BOUCIER to NICHOLAS for reasons unknown shortly after entering the US.The name went through various spellings before finally ending up as NICKLAW, probably due to anglicization of a French pronunciation of NICHOLAS. The surnames were used interchangeably for a period of time, some relatives kept JACQUES / BOUCIER and others NICKLAW.
I've been doing genealogy on my line of JACQUES for over four year now, information is hard to findand slow in coming even with using the internet. The information I've obtained on my surname has some holes that need filling, but my family tree is coming together. My sources vary and include the following; census records, Canadian Family Dictionaries, family members and distant relatives.
Let me know some information on your family history and I will try figer which line you belong to.
