Margaret Nicolson and John MacLean
I am trying to identify the Margaret Nicolson referred to in the following inscription on the headstone of Dr. John MacLean (Johannis MacLean) in the churchyard of Kilmuir in Trotternish, Isle of Skye, Scotland. It bears testimony to the worth of Dr. John MacLean, who died 1 May 1793, and then reads - Margaret Nicolson erected this mounment to the character of one who when alive, justly earned the esteem of all, and to whose memory after death it would be a mark for all time.
On the lintel over the door of the Cuibeal are the initials of Dr. McL., 1793 and MN, therefore it is believed that Margaret was the wife of Dr. John MacLean (who is described as "of Cuidreach and Shulista", Isle of Skye.
Would appreciate any help on identifying this Margaret Nicolson.
