Re: Nidick Germany to PA 1740?
Sorry this reply is so long in coming I was not notifed I had a reply to my posted message.
If your maiden name is Nidick then we are related to one another, are you Jancie Nidick the daughter of Billie and Ernest Nidick if so I'am your aunt Diana.
I have been doing research on the Nidick name for years and years and yes at one point in time it was thought the name was Scottish but as it turns out it is German. The family lived near to Marensfield and Grafton in Germany they where fish farmers raising fish for the Monastery in Marensfield. Your uncle Bill and I went to Germany and found the town where they once lived long ago and found the name on an old train station sign as well as on a street sign, in Germany the name is spelled Niedick. We have been in touch with a man in Germany who is a Nidick but spelled different and he has been kind enough to translate the German records I have found here in the states for me.
From Germany the Nidick's went to PA from PA to OH back to PA and out to CA.
We have been to PA and OH several times and have found the cemeterys where Ernest John Nidick Sr parents are buried and bought and placed headstones for them as well as found the resting place of his father Ernest William Nidick in PA and had a new headstone made for him he was in the Civil War and was wounded I have all his military information.
It is easier to go backwards Jancie so this is what I have for you on the name:
Ernest John Nidick born 1903 in PA son of William and Elizabeth Stockfish Nidick.
William Nidick born 1877 in PA son of Ernest William and Mary McClure Nidick
Ernest William born 1838 in OH son of William and Margaret Mann Nidick
Henry Nidick born PA? son of John? Nidick born PA this is where I am today going backwards. I have more research to do in OH this fall for Henry and John.
I have alot of Nidicks back to 1754 in PA and Iam trying to link our line to the correct Nidick.
It is very difficult to research the name as it is found spelled different on every document I have come across the very best way to locate the name is with soundex that gives you all the various ways it can be spelled and found as an example Ernest William Nidick served in the Civil War and in his military records his name is spelled Niedick and Nidick and it is corrected at one point to Nidick.. Even on the census records the name is found spelled different, the Nidicks spoke German in PA and OH the church they went to in OH and PA was German and the church records in PA are all in German.
This has been my passion in life I have tons of information picutres etc that I would be most happy to share them with you if you would like.
