NIEMEYERS in PRUSSIA, PA, OH, IL and MI
I have learned the following information about by NIEMEYER ancestors and would be interested in sharing information with anyone with a connection.
Two male Niemeyer siblings immigrated to the United States in the 1850s.I am unsure whether they came together. One is my ancestor named FREDERICK NIEMEYER and the other’s name I have been unable to learn to date.Frederick’s brother was married and had a daughter named MARY NIEMEYER.I have no other information on that line of the family but I do not believe that Mary ever married.
FREDERICK NIEMEYER was born in Germany, and I believe more specifically in Lubec, Prussia. He married Henrietta Wilhelmina ____?_____ who also later listed her birthplace as Germany.I believe that they had only one daughter named HENRIETTA WILHELMINA NIEMEYER.(Note:In this Henrietta’s obituary, a sister named Mary is listed as predeceasing her in Jackson, Michigan.I suspect this is an error because in her will, Henrietta lists a cousin named Mary Niemeyer in Jackson, Michigan and I would expect Henrietta’s own will to be more accurate than a third person newspaper account.)In Henrietta’s obituary, the family is said to have been “an historical family as most of her ancestors had seen service in the European wars of several decades back."
HENRIETTA WILHELMINA NIEMEYER was born on 16 Feb 1839 in Lubec Prussia. Her nickname was “Mina” (sometimes spelled “Mena” or “Minna”).Her family immigrated first to Easton, PA in 1858, and then later moved to Glendale, Ohio.It was there that she married FREDERICK WILLIAM TUCKER in 1861.The family later moved to Ash Grove Township, Illinois around 1869 and lived there until 1876 when they moved to Watseka, Illinois (Iroquois Township). She died on 6 Sep 1923 (nearly 43 years after the death of her husband) and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka, IL.
HENRIETTA WILHELMINA NIEMEYER and FREDERICK WILLIAM TUCKER had the following children:
REBECCA TUCKER SCHAEFFER (born in 1863 in Ohio and died before 1923 in Denver, Colorado).
HENRY CHRISTOPHER TUCKER(born in 1865 in Ohio and died before 1942 in Denver, Colorado).
DR. WILLIAM MEDWIN TUCKER (aka Medwin William Tucker) (born on 25 Jan 1866 in Ohio and died on 14 Dec 1941 in Los Angeles, CA.Married to DR. DIXIE BOHON.)
EDWARD TUCKER (born in 1870 in Ashmore Township, IL or Ohio and diedbefore 6 Apr 1942 in Chicago, IL.It’s believed he married but not further information has been located.)
DR. GEORGE WILLARD TUCKER (born in Apr 1872 in Ashmore Township, IL.He died on 14 Aug 1954 in Rockford, IL and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka, IL.)
REV. DR. HARRY E. TUCKER (born in 1874 in Ashmore Township, IL and died 05 Apr 1942 in Albany, OR. He was married to Minnie Pearl Bryan, cousin of Supreme Court Justice William Jennings Bryan.Harry had been head surgeon in the U.S. Army hospital on the Mexican border and served in the Oregon State Legislature.)
DR. HENRIETTA E. TUCKER TANNER (aka “Dee Dee” or "Etta") (born on 17 Mar 1876 in Watseka, IL and died on 9 Mar 1940 in Philadelphia, Pa.Henrietta was married to WILLIAM ELMER TANNER.)
ALBERT JOHN TUCKER(born on 26 Apr 1878 in Watseka, Il and died on 5 Apr 1942 in Stillwater, OK. He was married twice and his first wife’s name is unknown but his second wife was CARRIE MAE DUBREE).
In addition to the above, Henrietta seemed to treat two daughters of her husband from his first marriage as her own. They were SOPHIA (aka MAUDE) TUCKER LIPPELMAN and ELLA TUCKER NICHOLS.Both predeceased Henrietta and apparently without issue.
I have a great deal more information about this family and its descendants but as the Niemeyer name no longer continues at this point, I have stopped here.I look forward to corresponding with anyone who may have a connection.
