HI - my name is Jamie.I too am trying to find relatives from Co. Clare - I am looking for my husband's relatives actually. His great grandfather was John Nihill who married Elizabeth McCarthy.I'm not sure if they married in Ireland or in the US.If you have any info for me, that would be great.I think I found a 4 year old boy, John Nihill, who arrived in the New York in 1884, father also John Nihill, who is my husband's great grandfather...
In trying to find some of this information, I came across a very nice man who is related to a Bridget Nihill, although I'm not sure if it's your Bridget since she married a man named Michael Rohan and then moved to CT.Perhaps she remarried? She had a sister named Anna - this is what he sent to me:
William Geehan married Anna Nihill, born in 1854, in O'Callaghan's Mill, Co. Clare. They met in Manchester when they were both working at the Cheeney Silk Mill. They both came from Ireland about 1870 and they married in 1876. Anna Nihill's father was John Nihill and Anna's mother was Judy McNamara, both living and dying in the O'Callaghan's Mill area. Anna had two older siblings that I found living, Bridget Nihill, born in 1836, married Michael Rohan in O'Callaghan's Mill, had three children in Ireland and then moved to Manchester, CT about 1868, and Patrick Nihill born in 1844. I do not know if Patrick went to America or not. I have found very little information on him, so far. Anna came to America and lived with her sister, Bridget, and brother-in-law, until her marriage in 1876 to William Geehan.
Hopefully this may help you, or someone else who reads this:)
