A "Hist. of the Town of Whately Mass (1899)" by Crafts may be in error for whom Abraham Turner, Jr., married.Abraham married 23 Nov 1773 Sarah Niles(not Sarah Penfield), citing "Early Conn Marriages Prior to 1800" by Bailey.Assuming as you have it that one of their children bpt 10 Feb 1782 was named Elisha Niles Turner would suggest his mother was a Niles. (Sarah's brother was Elisha Niles). And Abraham's eldest son Artemus named a son Isaac Niles Turner, perhaps for his own mother.
Some claim without proof that Sarah (Niles) Turner died Oct 1810 at White Creek Washington NY.That may not be correct.Sarah may have died c1787, as Abraham's son, James McAllister Turner, was born 23 May 1789 Monkton VT with his second wife Esther McAllister."The Genealogy of the Descendants of Samuel Penfield" give Sarah's death as 1787 but no source.
Census records show Abraham residing at Salem Wash Co NY in 1790 and on the Tax list there for 1794. An Ester McAllister is there in 1790 who could be connected to Abraham. Abraham and his eldest son Artemus are at Salem in 1800. The two males over age 45 in 1800 in Abraham's family are probably Abraham Jr (b 1748) & his father Abraham Sr (b 1718), the latter died at Monkton in 1800 according to the Pendfield work. Abraham Jr is said to have died at Newburgh OH (p/o Cleveland in 1817 but no proof.
A Sarah Niles is also shown as marrying John Woodworth in 1776[Barbour Collection & Early Conn Marriages on 20 Jul 1779 John Woodruff.] Ancestry trees have her as the one who married to Abraham Turner, but that seems unlikely given that this Sarah & John had two children born in 1781 & 1784.Those dates don't fit with the births of Abraham's children.
The Sarah who married John may have been a dau of Nathaniel & Sarah (Holmes) Niles of Colchester. Nathaniel doesn't seem to have the registered the birth of any of his children -- their son's names are identified via Rev War records. As for the 1776 or 1779 marriage date, the Colchester CT town Book Vol 2, page 17, may need to be read to ascertain which date is correct and who she married.
Incidently, the www.familysearch.org records for Whately MA don't seem to have a listing of the children you reported for Abraham and Sarah.Ancestry's VR & Town rec appears to not include baptisms. So perhap church records for Whately is the source?
