2 of my 3rd greatgrandpa, Mars', brothers were: William (born 18 Oct 1806 Rutherglen) & Robert (I have no birth record). No further info on William.
Robert was enumerated, apparently still unmarried, age 65,laborer in cotton factory, born Glasgow, living at home with mother & sisters, in 1851 census, Blantyre, Scotland.
in online website:genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Trafalgar: Trafalgar Roll 21st Oct 1805: NAVIN, Robt ... Ord ... (ship) Mars.

Robert Nevin aged 20 born in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Ship: HMS MarsRating: Ordinary Seaman 7 October 1804Ship's pay book #: (SB 588) - - - - - Calculating by above Navy info, his birthyear would have been 1784 ?
accordingto biographyof Mars' sonRobert (published in History of Bay County, Michigan): 3 sons served with gallantry in British Army & 2 inBritish Navy. One of those in army was badly wounded in Napoleonic Wars.
Just because this was printed, doesn't make it all true.
It's possible that Wm Niven (b1766 d 1905 Trafalgar) could be paternal uncle of Mars.I like to use Mars as basic reference because with so many Williams, Roberts, etc ... it gets confusing.I have no actual records of birth, marriage or death for Mars' father .... only his name, Robert, from birth record for Mars & most of his siblings.
