I am looking for additional information regarding a Margaret Nolen found on the 1870 US census, 28 years of age, keeping house, in Corry , Erie County, Pennsylvania. On that Census, she is living with Son James, age 10, born Massachusetts, Joseph, age 3, born in PA, Mary age 5 months born in PA.There is no sign of the Father.
I believe this family name to actually be Nolan - as my Great Great Grandfather was Joseph A. Nolan of Erie, PA and the names of his siblings and dates line up.Additionally, I'm fairly sure another daughter was born to this mother, Anna in 1872.It appears that the 4 children were effectively orphaned sometime between 1872 and 1880 as on the 1880 US census, Margaret is missing, and these 4 children are living without parents - James and Joseph working on farms, etc. Mary living with an aunt in Philadelphia and Anna Nolan living in St. Joseph's orphanage in Erie, PA.
I have cross-posted additional information in the Nolan forum.
Would love to know what happened to Margaret Nolen (as spelled on the 1870 census), where the father was, and if there's any additional information out there. Please write if you have any connection or advice. Thanks
