THOMAS NORFLEET possible father of MARMADUKE NORFLEET?
Just one more thing to add to my previous post on MARMADUKE NORFLEET.Could This THOMAS NORFLEET be the father of Marmaduke NORFLEET?
John WILSON of NORTH HAMPTON co to John DAWSON of NORTH HAMPTON CO 1 Feb. 1746 100 pounds current money of VA.all my plantation and lands 150 acres more or less in URSARA MEADOW where on my father WILLIAM WILSON D'cd.on the South side of FISH MEADOW, joining others lands of John DAWSON, Robert RUFFIN, William COTTEN and Thomas COTTEN being all the land held by deed from RICHARD BRASWELL to William WILSON Decd.Except 30 acres sold to Robert RUFFIN, all houses, orchards, gardens, pastures etc.WITNESS: Thomas WILLS, Thomas NORFLEET, James BARNES REG: North Hampton Co May Ct. 1747.JOHN HOOKER D.C. Now THIS RICHARD BRASWELL is likely the father of REBECCA BRASWELL who married WILLIAM WILSON around 1723 and their son JOHN WILSON is now selling the land that RICHARD BRASWELL once owned and said land willed to his father WILLIAM WILSON.Since REBECCA BRASWELL was a land holder by MARCH 1719 (then BERTIE NC) but later known as NORTH HAMPTON NC, it is unclear if REBECCA was a WIDOW of Richard BRASWELL or a daughter who inherited land after his death or by Deed Gift sometime just before. But since single females could not be legal land owners I tend to think she was a widow, which current Braswell research has NO INFORMATION on or has any accountability for a widowed Rebecca Braswell. So perhaps single females could be land holders OR she is definitely a widow, the final answer if up for debate certainly.
Meanwhile, What I'd like to know is if this THOMAS NORFLEET could possibly be the father or related somehow to the MARMADUKE NORFLEET who purchased land in MADISON CO GA(at the time WILKES Co GA, but becomes MADISON after it's cut from Wilkes by 1812), when this MARMADUKE NORFLEET purchased his land by 1795 and on the land deed it states Marmaduke NORFLEET is from HALIFAX NC.
Since I have a VALENTINE BRASWELL who's parents are still unaccounted for in MADISON CO GA, I am wondering if there was a migration of families which included NORFLEET, BOYKIN, DAWSON and BRASWELL from Halifax NC to possible SC and into GA.
Can anyone help if any of this info sounds familiar.
Marmaduke NORFLEET is also connected in GA with BENJAMINSHERROD, JESSE DAWSON and WILLIAM BOYKIN in MADISON co GA 1818 on a document which originated from HALIFAX NC.
Thanks for any help,
Kay BRASWELL Dawson
