NORGROVE, Essex, 1800 to date.
Dear Margaret, I recently discovered your enquiry dated 5 Dec 99. Although my connection with the surname (in working on the COBBING family tree) starts early 1800's, it is in Essex.Until now the only other (historical) NORGROVE mention I have found was in Oxford, and dead-ended. Just the same, the comparative rarity of it leads me to think that any and all occurences may be easier to link than names like Smith. In my case, it may have begun with a well liked person (and probably a maiden name) because in every generation from the on it has been used as a given name, but its origins have been lost.I would very much like to solve this mystery, and if you think it might be worth our while to establish mutual aid in the search, I am quite willing to go along, and share whatever I have that might help.
