Hi, Clyde,

While searching today in my local township library, I ran across a biography of John Howard Northrop, biochemist, in the "Current Biography 1947" collection by H. W. Wilson Company. It states that he was born 5 Jul 1891 in "Yonkers, NY (Tonkers is a typo), not far from Milford, CT to which his ancestor Joseph Northrop had come in 1632". Born of John I. Northrop, who headed the Columbia University dept. of Zoology and Alice Belle Rich who taught Botany at Hunter College, NY.
In 1914 John Howard prospected briefly in Arizona then returned to NY where he married, in June 1918 in NYC, Louise Walker. They had 2 children, Alice Havemeyer and John.

The biography mentioned his many works as a biochemist, much too lenghy to hand copy but can photocopy another day if you would like the particulars.

Hope this helps - at least a start.

Happy Climbing, Ginny Northrup Wallace.
