Hi Wanda, I checked the history of my postings and yours, and we have discussed the Stephensons once before.I also believe George B. Stephenson is either a son of John Stephenson and Pheobe Clancy, or Matthew Stephenson and Betsy Brooks. If he is a son of Matthew and Betsy, and they married in 1804, then I believe George, born in 1805 could well be their oldest child.
There may also be a connection with the Van Dykes. My great great grandparents - William Durham and Pheobe Lawson had a daughter named Victoria Durham who married in 1900 Tazewell County, VA to Rawley Puckett. Before she married she had 2 children Benjamin Franklin Durham and Mary Jane Durham. (Victoria is single when she had these 2 children according to marriage certificates of both children). Mary Jane Durham is shown to have married 3 times, the second time to James Jackson VanDyke in 1912 in Tazewell County.James is the son of Israel Robert VanDyke and Johanna Lawson. James Jackson VanDyke died before 1920 (1920 Census shows Mary as "widowed".)
With James Norton and Demarries Harris - the last name Harris, I got from the 1880 census for Tazewell County, which showed a Delilah Harris living with James and Demarries Norton.Delilah Harris is listed as "sister-in-law".Delilah never married from family stories, and I heard she was taken care of by family members until she died.Don't know when.
In one of the census (I believe 1850?), James Norton is listed as born in Wythe County, Virginia, and Demarries is listed as born in Pulaski County, Virginia. This is all the info I have on James and Demarries. So far I have not found a marriage certificate.
