William Notine was listed as being born in Italy. His wife, Ellen (known as Ellen Burke from previous research I have conducted), was born in Connecticut. William was 29 years old according to the 1870 census and Ellen was 24. They had two children as of this census. The first, Almira, was 5 years old at the time of the census. She was not listed as a birth child of William's though as her father was listed as not being foreign born. Albert, my direct relative, was 2 years old at this time. Also living with this family was Joseph Notine of Italy age 23. He is the brother of William Notine as I had found out from other family researchers. Both William and Joseph were listed as pistol makers. They were living in the 4th Ward of Hartford, Connecticut.
From previous research, I know that William was born in April of 1841. Ellen was born around 1846. William lived at 22 Williams Street in New York starting in 1880. Now to confuse things, he was listed as married to an Elmira born in Ireland according to the 1880 census. Maybe Ellen was short for Elmira? He was in "artificial flowers" in 1880. According to the 1900 census, William is listed as a widower.
