I am looking for information on the Oathout brothers who ran a blacksmith shop in the former town on Cottage Grove in Richardson County, NE. in the 1870s.I haven't found their first names in any records. An Oathout family was living in the nearby town of Verdon in May 1882.Augustus P. Oathout and his family had settled in the new town of Verdon a few months earlier. His wife was A. M. Oathout (d. May 22, 1882), and at the time of his death May 11, 1882 at age 65,he had five living children: four sons ( one named Charles), and a daughter.Augustus has the distinction of being the first resident to die in Verdon.Augustus and his wife are buried in Harris Cemetery near Barada.Other Oathouts, undoubtedly related, are also there.Emma V.- d. 1878, age 21, Grover C.- d.1882, age 2, and Johnnie A. -d. 1896. Was Augustus one of the Cottage Grove brothers,or was Charles in partnership with one of his brothers?Any information will be appreciated.
