There is a 1900 marriage record in Jasper Co, MO (probably in Carthage) between Louis Obetz and Sarah Ella .Louis's mother was Minerva Obetz...sometimes spelled Obetts.
There's a very confusing story surrounding Sarah Ella Obetts, which I've just started to try and unravel. I'll post it if I can learn the whole story.
In 1909, there was another marriage record in Carthage for a Sarah Ella Obetts and Greenup Scott.Greenup died in 1917 and death certificate stated he was a widower.
Greenup's lst marriage was to a Nancy E.P.________in 1879 in Dade Co, MO.Nancy committed suicide in Carthage in 1904, and someone gave Nancy's maiden name as Ella Morris, whose first marriage was supposedly to a Lewis O'Betz. They had two children before divorcing.
Were there two Louis/Lewis Obetz/Obetts, one who md. Nancy Ella Morris and one who md. Sarah Ella Morris...or has someone just mixed the facts up?
Was Sarah Ella Morris a dau. to Nancy (Ella) Morris (Obetts, Scott). If so, why did she use her mother's maiden name when she married?
As I said, yesterday was the first I've learned about most of this, and I can see there are a lot of missing pieces to be found to make sense of all this.
When I saw your message, it appeared there might be a connection between your Ella Obetz' and the individuals I just mentioned from Jasper Co, MO and also the approx year of your Ella's adoption.
It's 2012 and you posted in 1999.Hope you are still seeking information and have the same email add., or that someone else sees my query and might have knowledge about the Carthage, Jasper Co, MO Obetz/Obetts from the early 1900s.
