I have Margaret listed as the last of apparently 16 children of Herald BRYAN(or O'BRYAN)(b. c1795-1800 VA or NC - d. c1870 Johnson KY).
Herald married Margaret "Peggy" Pack (b. 1804 Giles VA - d. 23 July 1859 George's Creek, Lawrence KY) on 24 March 1820 in Floyd Co., KY.
I think Margaret Pack's parents are named on her death record in Lawrence Co., KY... but I don't have that file with me right now.
I've been researching the Bryan/Bryant/O'Bryan families in Greenup/Lawrence Co., KY trying to trace my own line which is back to John Bryan (b. c1771 MD) who came to Kentucky in 1804 with his brother, Zephaniah.I once thought Herald was a son on John's.. but now I'm sure that's not true.
Herald's family lived in a different area of Lawrence Co., KY from most of the other families. Most of the earliest records refer to Herald as a Brian or Bryan.Later records referred to him and his family as "O'Bryans or O'Bryants"Herald said on the 1850 census that he was born in Va.His son, William, said in 1900 that his father was born in North Carolina.. but I would bet on Virginia.
My research has uncovered at least five separate families in the area. There was a Peter O'Bryant and family in Mason Co., KY in the early 1800s.My John Bryan came to Greenup (now Lawrence) Co., KY in 1804.Another John Bryan family lived in neighboring Cabell Co., VA and were the ancestors of William Jennings Bryan.Another Bryan family.. with brothers John, Joseph and Lawrence appears in Kanawha (now Cabell Co.) WV in the late 1790s.And in Lawrence Co., KY.. I have Herald's family and the family of a Lewis Bryan (b. 1804 VA) that I can't connect to any of them.
Most of my info on Herald has come from county records and other clues I've found on genforum.
