Thank you for your post. Wondering if you might have any information for me. To my understanding, my ancestors came from County Fermanagh, Ireland. So far, I have traced my line back to Thomas Callaghan (born approximately 1795). Thomas is my great, great, great grandfather. From my research, I believe that he was born in Annagulgan, Roslea, County Fermanagh Ireland.
Here is more history: To my knowledge, his father's name was Donal (born approximately 1770 in Cork) and his son was Thomas (September 10th, 1831 - 1904). This son traveled to the United States (Galena, Illinois) from Ireland in 1847 during the Great Famine. There were many other sons and one daughter:
John Callaghan (1815-1884) Edward Callaghn (1820 - 1895) - also moved from Ireland to Galena, Illinois James Callaghan (1820 - 1898) Julia (Callaghan) McDevitt - born 1823 from County Fermanagh Ireland married James McDevitt in Galena 1848. Moved to Cedar County Nebraska in 1879. Michael Callaghan (1829 - 1912) Hugh Callaghan (1835) - also moved from Ireland to Galena, Illinois Joseph Callaghan (1836)
These dates are mainly approximations as it has been difficult to find exact records.
