Shannon,
I have information on my gg-grfather Conrad Ochsner b. 1815, Switzerland, d. 1882 in Louisiana. He immigrated to New Orleans in 1852 with his family. He had 6 children by his first wife, Barbara, and 3 children by his second wife, Betsy. One of Conrad's and Barbara's sons was Johann, and after arriving in the US, Johann went by the name of John.John had the children that you mention. So we must be related to the same Conrad and John.
Conrad's wife Barbara (your John's mother) died shortly after arriving in New Orleans, after giving birth to her sixth child who they also named Barbara. Her cause of death could possibly have been from Yellow Fever, since one of the worst epidemics of Yellow Fever hit New Orlean in 1852.In 1852 and 1853, it killed about 15% or 1 out of 7 residents of N.O., mostly immigrants who were not immune.Fortunately for me, baby Barbara survived because she is my g-grandmother.
I have seen attempts to link our Conrad with Conrad Coelsetin Ochsner, but I have no proof that his middle name was Coelestin.Even though the birth and death dates are similar, I have doubts if it is the same person.Nevertheless, I am still open to the possibility that my Conrad may be, or may not be, Conrad Coelestin Ochsner.
I have more information on John and his family, and some of the other children's families of Conrad and Barbara, that I will be willing to share.Your posting was some time ago, so please respond to let me know if you are still actively working on this line.
Hope to hear from you.
