Dear Joan Miller, My mother's best friend for almost 50 years was a lady who died at the age of 99 last year. Her name is Dorina Maude Ockenden. Dorina's father was Charles Oliver Ockenden, and Her mother was Maude Atkins. Charles was District Commissioner in Nyassaland, although Dorina was born 11th. December 1908 at Wimbeldon, England. Her immediate family emmigrated to Australia (Tasmania) in 1919. Dorina had no children and had willed her body to Sydney University, so there is no grave and no memorial. I am tracing her family background so that I can write a substantial submission to the Municipality (Waverley) in Sydney to raise a Plaque in her memory on their Bondi Beach Walk, which is where she loved to swim. Hope that you can help, with thanks and kind regards, Paul Heisler.
