Stacy, can be be??? After these many years, another ODELL descendant is researching same line??
Like you, I have started with James ODELL.I have his birth year as 1786 - also in N.Y. (altho' I believe there are sources that have stated, incorrectly I believe! - as N.J.I don't have name of wife - so Jane is a find for me! May I ask where/how you got her name? Also - your post says James birth year is 1800 - so we don't agree there.
So, yes, move along to 1850, in Rockaway, Morris, NJ.
--The 1850 census - I have the census data but made note "Add'l research needed to verify the individuals in this census are the individuals in 'our' Odell Family.' Let me clarify: I believe there IS a connection but possibly not in direct line. Also, all these individuals were born in NEW JERSEY, and James, at 50 years old, would have been born about 1800, not 1786.
CENSUS, 5 AUG 1850, I found: Arthur ODLE (sp); 23, M, Laborer, born N. Jersey
in HOUSEHOLD of
Edward P. COOK, 28, M, Farmer, b. NJ
Mary COOK, 22, F, b. NJ
and Laura COOK 6 months,
Steph B. COOK, 24, M, farmer,
Mary Ann COOK, 17, F,
Catherin ADKIN (sp), 20, F
[I'm not certain this is 'my' Arthur; I don't know what his connection to this family was.)
1860 census that you mentioned - I didn't have that detail.
1860 CENSUS, (from Index), Rockaway, Morris, NJ: Arthur ODELL,head of household, age 33, living with his wife Margaret and 5 children.
1870 CENSUS, 21 JUN 1870, Wayne, Passaic, NJ:
[Arthur's father James was also in his household]
ARTHUR ODELL, head; age 42 years, male; white; Occupation: Laborer;born in New Jersey; male Citizen of U.S.
wife: Margaret Odell;; age 36 years; female; white;b. PA
son John Odell;age 18 years, male; white;b.: NJ
son James H. Odell;age 16 years; male; white;b: NJ
son Arthur Odell, age 15 years, male; white;b: NJ
daughter Mary E. Odell, , age 11 years, female; white;b: NJ
son William Odell; ; age 7 years; male; white;b: NJ
son, Samuel Odell, age 5 years, male; white; b: NJ
daughter Jane Odell; ; age 3 years, female; white; b: NJ
son Harman Odell,age 4/12 ( 4 month)s, male; white;b: NJ
AND - father - JAMES Odell; age 84 years, male; white; b: NEW YORK.
--So - I believe we are researching the SAME Odell's. Your James,. b 1800 - do you have any other information for him? (beyond 1850 census data)?
The only son I have for James (b. 1786, NY) is Arthur (b. 1828 NJ).Possibilities are that James had morechildren (including the James, b. 18oo!) and that he was married more than once.[Actually I think at one time I had family/ies connected - unfortunately that info ended up lost in cyber space.)
I'm so excited to see your post!Hope we're able to connect. Since this becomes read only in 2 days, I also utilize other genealogy forums. Hoping we can put our heads together :)
