Strangely enough I have a small 28 page book Written by a late Virgil Oetzel from Northern Kentucky, USA. The book is a first person account of his childhood thru adulthood. He gave a copy of this book to my father-in-law.He notes the following in his book:
Virgil D. Oetzel was born July 11, 1911.(I believe he has since died sometime in the late 1980's)
His Grandfather was John Oetzel II and came to US from Saxony, Germany in 1840.
His Grandma Oetzel was thought to be dead on the trip from Germany to US and was about to be thrown overboard. They discovered she wasn't dead and recovered. She wound up having 12 childern, with two dying in infancy.
Virgil's Great Uncle (his dad's uncle), Simon Oetzel came from Germany also (doesn't say where) and settled here also. He raised 7 boys from his first wife before she died.
There were 8 children in Virgil's family.3 girls: Hazel Alvina, Sadie Oleda, and Velma Rosella and 5 boys: Johnny Schnorr Oetzel IV, Phillip Edward, Virgil Donaphin, Verner Robert, and Alfred Milton.
