Neat to hear from you and also value the information that you've provided. Thanks heaps!
Well, your note had me checking my database, looking over gen material on line and more.Problem now is where to begin?(Not that I have anything concrete.Nope!Only wish that I did.)
But let's start with the DEMOSS line.I do have a few DEMOSS entries.Going back to immigrant French Hugennot Louis DEMOSS b 1688 who settled on Deer Creek in Hartford CO and what is now Baltimore co MD.(I have long suspected that Gabriel Scott is a descendant of the SCOTT line who also settled into Baltimore Co MD)Just a hunch and not yet a theory. What I do know is that Aquilla Scott (and there are more than one such named person) lived in Baltimore Co MD c 1700.At any event, my hunch is that Aquilla Scott and Gabriel Scott who came later are from the same Scott line.(See there were at least two men named Aquilla Welborn/Wilburn born sometime after Aquilla Scott and their roots are also in Baltimore Co MD to NC/KY and then MO and further west. But this is not my total reason for hunching.More stuff to tidbitdy to mention.)
I also show a Welborn/DEMOSS marriage.Which is how I happen to have entered the DEMOSS line into my database.I suspect that Mary Polly DEMOSS (if indeed, that is her surname) is a descendant of Hugennot Louis DEMOSS noted above.I have some gaps in the DEMOSS line...(lots of them) but Peter DEMOSS m Katherine Houseman on May 17 1777 in What is now Berkerly WVA. I suspect that Mary Polly is closely related to Peter DeMoss.Just a hunch.
What is of interest to me is trying to fill the gaps between various and sundry Wilburn/Welborn and other varied spellings of this surname.I know these early colonial VA and MD Welborn/Wilburn families are related in some fashion. For starters, they settled into the same areas of NC/TN/KY and elsewhere at the same time and also married into some of the same lines, but at different time frames.
You might have read my posting where I state that Gabriel Scott appears as nearest neighbor to Richard Wilburn in 1810 in Bedford Co VA.And that in 1850, a minor girl named Cynthia Wilburn is living in his household in Carter KY.You might find it of some remote interest to learn that Gabriel Scott (who lived in Carter KY) was married in Greenup Co KY)Carter co KY emerged from Greenup KY in 1838.
Another genealogy item.I noticed that you posted something about Bloomer Scott. So I checked my database to see if I had any Bloomer entries.Only one.Wilburn Livesay b c 1833 (probable in Claiborne/Hancock YN) m Sarah Bloomer on June 15 1858 in Rockcastle Co KY.Wilburn is the son of Enoch Livesay b Oct 28 1804 and Mary Polly Wilburn Livesay. Enoch Livesay is the son of George Livesay b 1765 of Bedford Co VA (Rev War papers) who died in Hancock Co TN in 1838.He was married to Nancy Anderson. *reportedly.... I know, I know the plot thickens.
And almost lastly, a branch of my Wilburn tree settled into Knox Co KY and appear there in the 1850 census.Lewis Wilburn my third great-grandfather and his wife Susan Blevins were living with their youngest son Rueben Wilburn in Knox Co KY when the 1850 census was taken.I'm not certain of the connections, but Hammons (Hammonds) were nearest neighbors of Wilburn families in three separte counties in KY in 1850.
Finally I get near closing time. But not before telling you that I'm the the least surprised that you have related kin on both your mother and father's side. This happens more often than not whenever married peoplehave southern colonial ancestors.
My own parents had a chance meeting in San Diego. My mother having been born in southern CA, while my Dad was born in KY.Who knew that my mother's Gentry ancestors were related in many ways to Wilburn families going back to c 1770 in NC.One of the first things that I uncovered while starting my family research was that a number of men were named Gentry Wilburn and vice versa.Small world indeed. And yes, Roe and the other families that you noted were related in some fashion to Wilburns of Carter KY and also Fleming co KY which borders on Carter. And in fact, Cynthia Wilburn who was living with Gabriel Scott had two older brothers who resided in Fleming Co KY.
Again, karen thanks for writing and for giving me new information too.
