The Rev. Samuel Burleson Ogan
The Rev. Samuel Burleson ogan, 85, of 119 N. La Salle St., died Friday, Oct. 29, 1993.
Memorial services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday in Bell Avenue Chapel of Schooler-Gordon, Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. B. L. Davis and the Rev. Gil Lain and the Rev. F.M. Byford, all of Paramount Baptist Church, officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Rev. Ogan taught school in Erath and Comanche counties before entering the service in World War II. He served in the 71st Battalion of the Seabees. He received his master of religious education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.He moved to Borger in 1948 where he taught speech at Borger high School. He was ordained in 1948 and pastored at Bunavista Baptist Church at Borger for 10 years. He moved to Salida, Colo., where he was pastor at Temple Baptist Church. He moved to Denver and pastored at Valley View Baptist Church in Arvada. he returned to Texas and was pastor at Frio Baptist Church near Herford. He moved to Amarillo and pastored at Sanborn Baptist Church until his retirement. He married Mary Lee Cornett in 1941.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Anna Ruth Postle of Dallas and Debbie Pitman of Oklahoma City; a son, Samuel Lee Ogan of Lubbock; three sisters, Trudy Massengale of Fort Worth, Annie Truitt of West Virginia and Esther Smith of Granbury; and nine grandchildren.
The family will be at 119 N. LaSalle St. and requests memorials be to Paramount Baptist Church Building Fund. The body will be available for viewing today and Monday at Bell Avenue Chapel of Schooler-Gordon, Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St.
I also have this little bit of information about a Rev. Robert Peter Ogan, b. 21 Jun 1862 in Callaway Co. Missouri; d. 21 Nov 1930, at Stephenville, Erath Co., Texas, buried in the Ogan Cemetery at Stephenville, Erath, Texas. His parents are George Everett Ogan and Louisa Isabel Hunter.
Robert's wife is: Elizabeth Ann McCain; b. 25 Dec 1877 in
Webster Co., Mississipp; d. 22 Oct 1926 at Stephenville and is buried beside her husband. Her parents are William Alexander McCain and Sarah Miller Golding.
Robert and Elizabeth married 14 Sep 1903, in Webster Co., Mississippi.
