I totally agree Daryl - Historically speaking, this has always been of great importance in family research, no doubt about it, at least in the historical organizations of which I belong. Published cemetery books along with church data/records have helped to prove links which would otherwise be lost...Most county histories always have sections on churches, their founders and cemetery records.I've personally surveyed many cemeteries in Henry and Clayton Counties in GA...and the data (published) proved to be very important to those who had found newly discovered ancestors.Church records have always been used in genealogy as a tool for family connections...they are invaluable.
As for our ancestors who came from Europe and in particuliar our Ogletree family of whom we are still trying to determine more about their ancient homeplace - Scottish history is surrounded by religious persecution and in particuliar, for months now, the Ogletree and also Ochiltree family discussion has been on this very topic. So yes, the religious background of our ancestry is very important in determining our origin among other important issues.
Thank you for your comments, very much appreciated.
