Hugh and Daniel Ochiltree
Have been searching the Canongate Tollbooth records hoping to find more on Hugh and Daniel Ochiltree and their mother Margaret MacGlashen. Not much so far except they were paupers. Must have been in there for another reason however because Canongate did not become a poorhouse/workhouse until 1744. Part of it was a jail before that however.
Searched the register of marriages (1564 - 1800) and found two Ochiltrees: Arthur Ochiltree and Catherine Shaw 6/5/1731. Both servants to David Smith. Elizabeth Ochiltree and William Hamilton, a shipwright in 11/23/1725.
Two MacGlashans. James a chairmaster and Elis Watt 6/30/1755. Also James, a musician 10/22/1800.
Alot of these records require a lot of interpreting and naturally I am not as qualified as others to do this. Intend to get help when I can. So far nothing that helps me determine why they were in jail and why they were deported.
