Hi Tina.Sorry to be so long in answering. We took a couple of day trips and then my ISP had a problem.I think that rather than posting the Ogletree ancestry you mentioned, why don't you just give the address of the site.
Most of my information differs somewhat from what you have."Revolutionary" William Ogletree married Mary "Mollie" Bird and to date, I've not seen anyone list a son Richard for them.Philemon Ogletree was son of William and Mollie (Bird) Ogletree and he kept a record which is referred to as “Philemon’s Little Red Book.”In this little book, he listed all of the children of his parents, William and Mollie. There is NO Richard Ogletree listed for them.It would seem to me that if Philemon had a brother Richard, he would surely have mentioned him along with his other brothers and sisters. The following are the children of William and Mollie Ogletree from Philemon:
1.Frances 8 Aug 1789
2.Philemon 26 Mar 1791
3.Nancy 7 May 1793
4.William 27 Aug 1795
5.John Bird 1 Jan 1798
6.James3 Dec 1800
7.Elizabeth 3 Nov 1803
8.Buford 15 April 1806
9.David9 July 1809
10. Absalom11 feb 1811
11. Mary Ogletree 27 Apr 1814
We do know that WILEY OGLETREEhad a son Richard and a daughter Susannah (who m. Abraham Rickerson). As far as I know, there were only two Richard Ogletrees who would be close to the age for your Richard:
(1) Richard A. Ogletree (b. 1814, son of Littleton Ogletree). This Richard married my gr. grandaunt, Nancy Taylor, and lived in Greene Co., GA.He is well documented and actually would be too young to be your Richard.
(2) Wiley’s son Richard, b. in the 1790s in GA (according to census records). Apparently he left Wilkes Co. and was in Hancock Co. by 1820.He moved to Crawford Co., GA between 1830 and 1840.
Both Richard and Susannah are mentioned in the will of John Ogletree, Sr. as children of Wiley.
Excerpt from Will of John Ogletree, Sr.:
* * * Item 6thI GIVE UNTO MY SON WYLIE OGLETREE the sum of five dollars.I LEND TO HIS WIFE NANCY OGLETREE for her use one hundred dollars.
Item 7thI GIVE TO RICHARD OGLETREE SON OF WILEY OGLETREE the sum of fifty dollars to him and his heirs forever.
Item 8thI give to MY SON WILEYS DAUGHTER SUSANNAH RICKASON fifty dollars to her and her heirs forever. * * *
(Susannah Ogletree married Abraham Rickerson and they are also found in Crawford Co., GA in 1840 and 1850.)
There are two marriage records in Hancock Co., GA for Richard Ogletree.Unfortunately, not all of the dates are there. One is to Dolly Huff, no dates, and the other to Mehitable Smith in 1819 (only year is shown).(Sources:History of Hancock County, Georgia Vol. I, and Ancestry.com.)It appears that Mehitabel (Hettie) was mother of most of his children, maybe all.In 1820, there is a son under the age of 10 listed for Richard.Since he married Mehitabel in 1819, it is possible the son could belong to her but also possible he could be from Richard's first marriage.
Here are some census records for Richard Ogletree.(Richard may have died before the 1850 census as I've been unable to find him in that year. However, I have not found his wife in 1850 and she was still alive in 1860.)In 1820, there is a female over 45 years old and it is suspected that this was likely his mother-in-law.
1820 Census, Hancock Co., GA
Capt. Coleman’s District
Roll 7, Page 87
RICH’D OGLETREE
1 male under 10
1 male 26-45 (Richard)
1 female 16-25 (wife of Richard)
1 female 45 and upwards
1830 Census, Hancock Co., GA
Roll 18, Page 163
RICH OGLETREE
1 male 5-10
1 male 30-40 (Richard)
2 females under 5
1 female 10-15
1 female 20-30 (wife of Richard)
(We think the female age 10-15 was probably born in 1820 after the census was taken, thus about 10 years old in 1830.)
1840 Census, Crawford Co., GA
RICH OGLETREE
1 male 5-10
1 male 15-20
1 male 40-50 (Richard)
2 females 10-15
1 female 15-20
1 female 40-50 (Richard’s wife)
Also, as Dan mentioned in his message to you regarding William Ogletree of Hanover Co., VA, there is absolutely nothing to show he was father of John Ogletree.Of course, it's possible, but not one document has been discovered to prove or disprove any relationship.
Later,
Rhoda
