Dr. Geo. M. O'Hara, arrested Springfield, Ill., 1893
Batavia Herald, 14 Dec. 1893:
Disfigures Plate-Glass Fronts
Four some time Springfield merchants have been complaining to the police that their plate glass fronts were being disfigured by some malicious person who carved all sorts of shapes and forms on the glass. At midnight Friday an officer stationed inside of Corkey & Co.'s shoe store caught Dr. George M. O'Hara in the act of marking the glass front with a diamond ring and arrested him. Later O'Hara wa released on his own recognizance, and Saturday he was not to be found. He acknowledged cutting the glass and said he had no other motive than pure deviltry. Dr. O'Hara is a dentist. He has a family and has always borne a good name. His friends are unable to account for his strange conduct. The total loss sustained by all the merchants amounts to several thousand dollars.
