this is a tribute to a wonderful woman by the name of Carmela Deddeo later known as Millie Bastoria or Millie DiDonato. Mille was believed to be born on January 18, 1892, (although some historicalrecords state she born January 25, 1891, and her name was Taddio) she nevertheless wasborn in Basalagata Italia, to a Teresa Divone or Divonna. and a father named Francesco, who possibly died in Italia around 1895-96 right after her sister Felicia Marie was born.
Her grandmother was known as an adona, her name was Felicia Divone or Divonna. Her mom was the first to arrive in America in 1896. She lived at 337 E 11 street off of First Avenue in Manhattan. On possibly New Years Eve of 1902, she arrived in America with her brother who's name was Giuseppe, and might have also been known as Vincenzo. Giuseppe served in world war 1, and died from being gassed, three years after the war was over.
In 1932 her, and her husband Patsy Buonpastore adopted a little girl and renamed her Francesca Buonpastore. Patsy died on October 24, 1935 at age 38 due to complications from puenmonia.
In 1946, She married Antonio DiDonato, they lived for the next 15 years on Delancey Street. In 1962, she moved to Brooklyn to be near her daughter Frances, and her grandchildren.On March 30 1970 she passed away at age 78. her husband Antonio died on May 7, 1973 at the age of 84. both are buried in Farmingdale NY in St. Charles Cemetery.
In her lifetime she ran a restaurant, she worked as an sewing operator. and also was a seamstress. She never went too much schooling since she left italy at age 10 to be with her mom in America and take care of her.
Because of her adopting her daughter shehas five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren to leave in her memeory. What a remarkable woman she was, and a wonderful mother and grandmother .
