I'm researching ASAHEL OLES (1788- 1871)in Delaware Co.NY, whom I believe is descended from the OLDS family of CT>MA.His wife's name was Amy, d. 1863. His children include Jabez, Betsey (marr. William Howland), Asahel W., John, David, and Sylvester (whose line my girlfriend is from); I think there were more girls, but I can't find info on them.
Asahel is in Franklin, Del. Co, NY for the 1820 Census. The 1855 NY State census indicates Asahel and Amy were from Columbia Co. originally, and moved to Franklin around 1813 or so. 1865 says Asahel was from Dutchess Co., and on later censuses, the children indicate either NY, MA, or even CT as Asahel and Amy's birthplace, but that of course was second-hand. Columbia Co. might make sense. There is a line which goes from immigrant Robert Old (Suffield, CT) to Jonathan Olds (b.1698) to Seth Olds (b.1740, marr. Annar), who located in Alford, MA (right on the border of NY). He had at least 5 or 6 kids from what I've seen, including an Ezekiel, Seth Jr., Isaac, Martin, and a daughter Annar. At least one of these seem to have started spelling the last name "OLES", not "OLDS". Another son of Seth's was named Asahel(b.1766). There is also an "Asahel Oels" in Columbia Co. in 1810 census, age 45+ (that's a little off for the MA guy, but close). People seemed to flip-flop across the MA/NY border, and ages were often slightly off.
Sorry that I wrote a lot, but I figure better to give the necessary info right off the bat. Hopefully someone can be of help in determining exactly what line Asahel is from.
