Re: Looking for the parents of Isabella Oliphant (wife of James Ogilvy)
By far the most expert on the subject would be Gordon MacGregor, who wrote a book called the Red Book of Perthshire. In fact, he has included all the landed Oliphant families in that work. I have checked it and he also has not found any parental evidence for Isabella. That being the case, the information on the internet is almost certainly "unfounded".
Dundas did marry a lady of the same name, who was the 1st Lord Oliphant's daughter but since Dundas also died at Flodden, it is unlikely that we are talking about the same woman, unless she had divorced him first.
The best person to ask is Gordon MacGregor as his research is all based on him reading original documents, charters and records such as the Sasines (land registers), services (retours) of heirs, sheriff court books, protocol books (the books into which lawyers copied every charter which they drafted, so that they had a duplicate record).
Reading these records is very difficult at times and Gordon is by far the world authority on the original documents relating to the Oliphants from when they arrived in Scotland in 1141 upto the 19th century.
