Hi Tim.
I have found that Joseph Oller was listed in the Emmittsburg Election 5 District for the Frederick Co. 1820 MD Census on page 149 written in just underneath Christian Harbaugh, the last name on a line before the totals were given. After Joseph's name there are no enumerations for the age categories-doesn't even show a 1 for himself.Along with Joseph on page 149 for the 1820 Census, were:John Ohler, page 147; Frederick Ohler, George Ohler, George Addam Ohler, Thomas Ohler, all page 146 no township listed.
Regarding the 1800 MD Census when Joseph would have been age 6, the only Oller, Oler, Ohler, Owler etc... listed were four Olers:Andrew, George Addam, Laurance and Peter.Of these four only Andrew and George Addam had any children in the male under 10 category.I don't have but an index listing for 1810 and 1820 and also know that there were plenty of Ohlers and Olers in the same area as Joseph apparently at that time that were of a different line.
I have Joseph as a private under Capt. Samuel Dawson enlisted July 26 1814 deserted (apparently along with the whole group due to bad orders given)Sept 29 1814.
Joseph left Frederick Co. marrying Mar 20 1820 Rebecca Stoner in Wash. Twp. Franklin Co. PA.I have not looked at tax records for Wash. Twp; however, I was told that the tax records for Fred. Co. MD for the time period prior to 1820 are not at the MD Archives-lost or whatever.
I have family notes that say that Joseph had a brother John Oller who was born 9-11-1798 married in 1842 in Bedford Co. died 9-11-1849.His daughter Mary and wife Esther Ramsey Oler are on the Bedford Co. West Providence Twp 1850 Census.John's granddaughter's notes say she remembers Esther telling her stories about being very fond of Jacob Oller, John's nephew, who would come over to Bedford Co. for Church of the Brethren celebrations. This would be Jacob Franklin Oller, my grandmother's mother's father. My family notes are ones compiled by John's granddaughter and Joseph's greatgranddaughter Bessie, granddaughter of Jacob Franklin.
Has anyone gone through all the Oler/Ohler etc... wills listed at the Fred. Co. courthouse to see if a Joseph is mentioned?
Of course, he could have been in MD for the war of 1812 and then in Fred. Co. census even if his family wasn't there and of course his parents could have died who knows where.
Anne
