Hi there everyone. As you can see from my name (and email address of choice), I am an Ollivant.
I have casually researched my family name on and off for a while now, but there appears to be very little knowledge about this family name...
Most of my immediate family (up to grandparents)are based in South Yourkshire in the United Kingdom (Rotheram area mainly), and have done now for 3 generations.
Someone once told me that the name has some significance to olive trade and growing (more than likely in italy or mid european country), but I have never had this confirmed. A french teacher of mine did say that the name sounds italian, but that's by the by...
I have also read on one of the many geneology websites that are knocking about, that there was a "clan Ollivant" in Scotland at some point... with coat of arms and all.
It's disturbing that so many websites etc are trying to make money from the research of our family's names, so I never fully trust them (especially when they want money from me to buy a coat of arms, or crest, or documents etc... etc...).
If anyone wants to compare notes, or try and merge family trees etc, then please let me know.
